Clinical Hypnotherapy is offered as a stand alone service or may be incorporated with another healing modality. This is dependent upon what you feel you need and what Dr. Darlene may recommend for conquering fears and phobias, eliminating bad habits, changing beliefs and/or behaviours, adjusting lifestyle, empowering self, healing, and moving forward in your life.
First, to address the numerous misconceptions and myths about hypnotherapy also known as hypnosis. Hypnosis does not put you in a deep trance state, but does allow you to go into an altered state of consciousness also known as "Alpha". When in Alpha, an individual is up to 200 times more suggestible and therefore more able to receive messages that influence positive change. Anything deeper than Alpha (such as Delta or Theta) is helpful, but not necessary. Beta is the normal awakening consciousness where a person's brain is fully functional and in an alert state. It pays attention to and processes stimuli from the outside world.
In Alpha, you are slowed down slightly and therefore are more focused and able to dedicate your train of thought to one thing. This state can be equated to the same as when you are watching TV, or when driving for a long period of time. Outside stimuli plays a lesser role. After prolonged driving, your attention shifts to what is happening directly in front of you. This is Alpha. Alpha is a "not-really-here, not-really-out-of-it" phase. In Alpha, outside stimuli are no longer distracting you, this is when you are able to receive the necessary messages by Dr. Darlene that will contribute to your healing and lifestyle changes. Even in an altered state of consciousness you are always in control, fully capable of reacting and making decisions.
Of all therapies, hypnotherapy produces the most immediate results. Hypnotherapy is a combination of hypnosis and therapy, which is one of the many attributes separating it from stage hypnosis. There are many non-hypnotic therapies many of which are long-term even years where of getting to know yourself and examining the roots of your behaviour. However, if you want immediate results, hypnotherapy is the most effective tool.
